Instructions
Print the 4 page pattern (pdf format) for the pillow and tape the pieces together to form a large heart with grid.
The chart below shows the approximate length of the ribbon pieces, but cut your ribbons as you go along rather than ahead of time.
Using an ink pen trace the outline of the heart on the non-fusible side of the pellon. Apply two-sided tape to the pattern as indicated below. Flip the pellon over and match the drawn heart with the outline of the heart on the pattern securing the pellon to the paper pattern with the two-sided tape. (The fusible side of the pellon should be up.)
Beginning at center and working horizontally, place ribbon lengths across the pattern using the grid to guide you. Secure the ends of the ribbons to the pellon with two-sided tape.
Continue placing horizontal ribbons across entire pattern.
Starting at the vertical center begin weaving ribbons through the horizontal ribbons. Attach the ribbon ends to the pellon with two-sided tape.
Carefully remove the paper pattern from the pellon, making sure the woven ribbons stay secured on the pellon. Place the pellon, ribbon size down, on your ironing board and following the temperature setting included with the pellon, carefully fuse the pellon to the woven ribbons. Allow pellon to cool.
Cut 2 pieces of cotton fabric 18" X 9" for the back of pillow. With right sides together stitch 6½" from bottom towards the center and 6½" from top towards the center using a ½" seam allowance. (This will leave a 5" opening for stuffing.)
Iron seam flat.
With right sides together pin the woven pillow top to the back along the drawn heart on the pellon. Be sure to carefully match the seam on the back to the valley and bottom peak of the heart.
Stitch front to back along the drawn heart lines. Trim the pillow allowing ½" seam.
Carefully clip curved edge of seam to allow for a smooth edge once the pillow is turned right side out.
Turn pillow to right side through opening in back. Smooth edges from inside to form heart shape. Stuff pillow. Whipstitch the opening.
Finish pillow by stitching or safety pinning a bow on front. The finished pillow is 16" X 16".
Have fun!
